Constance Hale
Very easy, casual, non-academic read. How to undo the damage that foreign missionaries did when they made hawaiian language written. What really annoys me about this reading is the part where the missionaries found that the hawaiian language was "lacking" even though it was precise and very intermediate. The only reason missionaries thought it was lacking was because it didn't have words such as faith and holiness and religion. Well duh, of course it didn't. Hawaiians didn't believe in the same religion that the missionaries believed in! This strongly reminds me of how you would control a people, if you can take over their language and religion then you can basically mold a people however way you want. Which is exactly what the missionaries WEREN'T supposed to do!
