Business and power. What's new? This paper was a hard read for me mostly because it bored me. Those who have control have power. Straight off it was obvious to me that Senegal has gone through much struggle to gain its independence. What from slavery, other countries trying to rule over them, and from different interests. Religion of course also played a role in civil unrest. With the involvement of the military group UNACOIS, I was strongly reminded of what Hawaii has and still is going through because of the military, and we don't even have independence! We were taken over by military occupation (which is a mild way of putting it). And military nowadays completely rules Oahu island! The best beaches are fenced off or reserved for military, they get special discounts, they bomb sacred places with having no respect for the Hawaiian people, and much more but I don't feel like ranting about it.

I feel like Hawaii is going through something like that now, minus controlling trade. I hear how we should buy local and support local people but it's hard when the state makes buying foreign so much cheaper than buying local. It's sort of like buying organic, it's supposed to be better and healthier but if you go to Safeway it's also very expensive. Why spend $6 for an organic tomato when you can buy 3 (Monsanto) tomatoes for $3? Cheaper appeals more to us because it's logically more affordable especially living somewhere that's all ready expensive to live in the first place.
