What gives UNACOIS leaders independent clout and room for maneu- ver is their capacity to mobilize a large mass of followers. Their ability to do so rests on the strong links of personal dependency that tie leaders to fol- lowers who are involved in urban commerce. The principal beneficiaries of this system insist that these tight personal bonds are a manifestation of tra- ditional ethnic or religious solidarities.

This article helped me to see the inter-playings of the various groups of a post colonial world.  I feel understanding the experiences will help to identify the economic structures we will possibly traverse as Hawaiians.
