The title in itself "the power of community" points to the key to success in any area. When looking at the changes that Cuba made, its obvious that it's not an easy task to take on. These people literally came from chaos, their whole economy gone, and now to someplace that we can truly learn from. The thing that stuck out in my mind after going over my notes was their ability to come together and work as a community. When they distributed lands solely for farming, they knew and understood the importance of setting aside land for this reason. Something we can learn from here in Hawai'i. But how many people would be willing to make this type of lifestyle change. And as long as we have big spenders, big corporations willing to buy out and "save" us, how will we ever be able to become sustainable so we don't have to rely on outside imports? It is through the joining of communities that this type of success will be possible.
